BAFTA Cymru: the nominees

BAFTA Cymru have announced the Nominations Shortlist for their 2008 Awards Ceremony, which will be held at the Wales Millennium Centre on 27 April.

The nominees for Best Makeup are:
Calon Gaeth
Teresa Kelly
Doctor Who ‘The Shakespeare Code’
Barbara Southcott & Neill Gorton (Millennium FX)
The History of Mr Polly
Carole Williams.

I loved that episode of Doctor Who and those alien witches were brilliant. But the budgets for Doctor Who and hence the production values must so outweigh those of shows produced for the local market — especially Welsh language productions — that it it hardly a level playing field in any of the craft & design categories.

BAFTA Cymru Awards: the winners

BAFTA Cymru announced the winners of the 16th Annual BAFTA Cymru Awards last night. The winners for Best Makeup are:

Overall, it was a very good night for the Doctor Who / Torchwood teams. Doctor Who won eight awards: Best Actor (David Tennant); Best Screenwriter (Russell T Davies); Best Director: Drama (Graeme Harper); Best Lighting Director: Not Camera; Best Editor; Best Original Music Soundtrack; Best Makeup; and Best Costume. Torchwood won four awards: Best Actress (Eve Myles); Best Drama Series ; Best Director of Photography: Drama; and Best Design.

BAFTA Cymru: Best Makeup: nominations

Doctor Who: ‘The Girl In the Fireplace’
Sheelagh Wells & Neill Gorton

No surprises there then; except, why not ‘Love & Monsters’ instead of ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’?
